چکیده

CASE REPORT A 75-year-old man with a medical history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and hypertension underwent a transurethral prostatectomy with the Olympus bipolar TURis system. Unfortunately, inadvertent bladder instillation with overheated saline at the onset of the procedure complicated the surgery. Shortly after the onset of the operation, the bladder was contracted and could not be distended by the fluid. At the same time, the fluid contacted the surgeon’s hand, making him realize that it was overheated. Irrigation was

Bipolar resection of the bladder and prostate – Initial experience with a newly developed regular sized loop resectoscope

OBJECTIVE Bipolar transurethral resection (TUR) has been introduced in the clinical practice nowadays. Benefits from bipolar TUR are represented by the use of saline irrigation, which avoids hypoosmotic hyperhydration (TUR-Syndrome), as well as by the reduced risk of obturator nerve stimulation. However, the previously introduced smaller bipolar resection loop caused prolonged operating-time. W...

Fluid extravasation caused by bladder perforation during bipolar transurethral resection using saline solution -a case report-

Transurethral resection of the prostate is the gold standard in the operative management of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate using saline solution is a safe technique and reduces the risk of transurethral resection syndrome. This report discusses a rare complication of bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate: the extravasation of 0.9% saline ...

A short-term evaluation of the safety and the efficacy of bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate in patients with a large prostate (>90 g)

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy and safety of bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in patients with a large prostate (>90 g), as a significant recent modification of TURP is the incorporation of bipolar technology, which uses the same technique as monopolar TURP but with normal saline as the irrigant. PATIENTS AND METHODS Forty patients with a prostate of >90 g and who we...

Bladder injury secondary to obturator reflex is more common with plasmakinetic transurethral resection than monopolar transurethral resection of bladder cancer

INTRODUCTION Transurethral resection (TUR) is the most common surgical technique for the diagnosis and initial treatment of bladder cancer. In this study, we evaluated two surgical techniques in terms of bladder injury due to obturator reflex in patients that underwent TUR for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). MATERIAL AND METHODS 93 patients who underwent TUR for bladder cancer wer...

Bipolar transurethral resection in saline (TURis): outcome and complication rates after the first 1000 cases.

OBJECTIVE TURis((R)) is an emerging technique that shows the same efficacy of monopolar resection. However, there is currently little available data on the safety of bipolar devices. We assessed outcome and safety of TURis on a large cohort of patients with at least 6 months' follow-up. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between January 2006 and October 2007, 1000 consecutive transurethral resection (TUR),...
